002 - Birthday Boy

Summary

An 11-year-old gets separated from his father on the way to a baseball game and disappears. His separation is not as accidental as it initially appears, and the boy gets in over his head before contacting a man for help who he thinks is his birth father. But the guy isn’t the boy’s birth father.

Rating

3.5 stars I’m a sucker for the stories involving kids. The main characters seem more established in only the second episode, which is surprising and nice. It’s a well-done story.

Notes

Jack is still wearing the colored shirts, but goes to white shirt and black suit by the end of the episode. And thus his style is born.

Jack has two daughters, ages 6 and 8.

Danny refers to his “brothers”, but in later episodes he only has one brother.

Jack used to smoke.

The elevator ride is ridiculously long.

Quotes

Danny: This would never have happened a Shea.
Vivian: It’s so sad how bitter Met fans are.

Martin: So you want me here.
Jack: Break major protocol on the first day, that’s what happens.
Martin: How long does it take to get out of his doghouse.
Danny: Depends on the dog.
Samantha: Don’t mind Danny. He’s just, uh, marking his territory.

Jack: Look, I’ve worked hundreds of these cases and certain patterns develop. Now I may not like the pattern, but I can’t ignore them. You wanna know what those patterns are? When a child goes missing, whoever claims to have seen them last is usually the that that took them. And if that person happens to be one of the parents, the incidence doubles.

Jack: Where’d you learn that? White collar?
Martin: Sixth grade swim class.
Jack: I was gaining on him, you know.
Martin: Sorry about that.

Samantha: I heard you got a little wet.
Martin: Beats sweating my ass of in the dog house.
