003 - He Saw She Saw
Summary
Emily Muller is kidnapped/carjacked in a mall parking lot. The initial thought is that her husband staged it to get the ransom money to save his company. However, it ends up being a couple guys who planned the kidnapping as a get-rich-quick scam, but then she has an affair with one of the kidnappers-to-be. That kidnapper sets the kidnapping in motion when she dumps him because things get better with her husband, and then he backs out at the very last minute.
Rating
A good, solid story.

Notes
“After the re-zoning they hung us up over the EI statements.” EI would be Environmental Impact.
Martin needs to wear a smaller size of white glove. I’m assuming crime scene gloves come in a few sizes like lab gloves, so he really should step down a size.
When they do the flashback with the homeless lady, you can see her hand off the ice cream cone and drop a napkin in the corner of the screen as it goes from present to past.
Jack and his wife separated 3 months earlier.
Quotes
Martin: So I’ve got three composites on our suspect.
Samantha: White, maybe not white. Brown haired or balding. Bearded man with a mustache.
Danny: You gotta love eyewitnesses. Me, I’ll take an old-fashioned, grainy security video any day of the week.
Jack: And how about that business associate of his? Mr. Bligh. He seemed a little nervous to me.
Samantha: Well you can be very intimidating. So, what, you think they arranged a kidnapping? What’s the motive?
Jack: Money. Another woman. Revenge.
Samantha: Call me old fashioned, but when a marriage isn’t working, divorce is probably the answer.
Jack: If she was looking for an escape she’d probably pick someone that was completely separate from her real life.
Samantha: Is that from your infidelity handbook.
Jack: Chapter 3.
Duncan’s Lawyer: Agent Malone, I would like it to be noted that my client is cooperating fully in this investigation.
Jack: Apart from hiding every crucial piece of information, your client has been very cooperative, and we’ll be sure to make a note of that.
Ethel Robbins: Oh, you’re here about the box. Thank God. And so fast. I only called a few minutes ago.
Martin: You called?
Ethel Robbins: Well sure I did, as soon as I got home and saw that it didn’t have my name on it. No name, just an address, who sends a package like that. And I thought Turley Jenkins, she’s always forgetting things, but she’s on a cruise. That’s why I figured it must be one of these unabombs.
Samantha: Mrs. Robbins we don’t…
Ethel Robbins: Why they picked me, I have no idea.
Samantha: Mrs. Robbins we don’t anyone sent you a bomb.
Martin opens the box.
Ethel Robbins: You think that’s such a good idea? Maybe I should wait in the yard or something.
Vivian: Why would somebody take the money out and send the old lady an empty box?
Martin: Maybe Duncan never put the money in.
Danny: Or maybe his lawyer took it out without Duncan knowing.
Vivian: Or the kidnappers somehow got to it after the old lady picked it up.
Jack: Or maybe they sent the empty package because they knew we’d be sitting around with 18 different theories. That’s the point.
Vivian: Martin, why am I here?
Martin: I have a hunch and I need your help proving it.
Vivian: And you thought you call me because if it didn’t pan out I’d go easy on you?
Martin: Exactly.
